Supporters watching the final at Rowley Park had more than they had bargained for when Bradwell Belles Reserves (3rd in the table) went up against division one champions F.C. Reedswood. The game started with Reedswood finding the net in the first 10 minutes, and shortly after hit the cross bar and the upright. Bradwell hit back within 10 minutes, following a great free kick over the wall and into the path of two bradwell strikers, who made no mistake finding the net dispite the brave attempts of the Reedswood keeper. Bradwell grew in confidence after equalising and within minutes had took their lead to 3 - 1. The heavens opened just before the break and the heavy rain continued for most of the second half. Both teams came out as determined as before intent on winning the game. Reedswood won a corner 20 minutes into the first half and was headed brilliantly over the Bradwell keeper to make it 3 - 2. Bradwell came searching to increase their lead but Reedswood were intent on searching for their equaliser. Bradwell still had the lead but the game stayed open for some time, both teams still searching for goals. Five minutes before the end Reedwood's hard work paid off and they were awarded a penalty, which they slotted away dispite the keeper heading the right way. The game couldnt be settled in normal time and the game went to extra time, both teams attempted to put fresh legs on before the break, but nothing could seperate them.
Nerves set in for both teams when the game went to penalties, 12 penalties were taken by each team before the game was settled. The game ended 4 - 5 to Reedswood, in a game which could have gone either way.
The players from both teams were competitive but remained respectful to their opponents throughout the game. It was a great battle between two teams that have both achieved a great deal this season.
Thank you to the supporters from both teams, the officials and commitee members Kath Baddeley for producing programmes for the day and both Kath and Rob Pilkington for awarding the medals and trophy's for the league cup and also the medals and league winners trophy's to division 2 champions Newcastle Town Ladies and division 1 champions F.C. Reedswood.
